Mission
The primary mission of the Florida State University School of Theatre is to offer a comprehensive education in theatre and to prepare students to enter theatre-related professions by:
- Developing and maintaining educational, research and service programs within a liberal arts and professional school environment that enables graduates to compete successfully in pursuing advanced degrees or in the marketplace for occupations in entertainment and education.
- Presenting a diverse program of live theatrical events to enhance the academic specializations in performance, production, research, analysis, publication and service. In so doing, the School of Theatre seeks to serve audiences in the Southeast with enlightening and entertaining programming.
- Creating opportunities to study (principally in Tallahassee, Sarasota, and London) with national and international artists, scholars and leaders in the entertainment industry and theatrical institutions.
- Hiring and continually developing a diverse and multi-talented faculty and staff to support the creative, educational, professional, research and service mission of Florida State University.
- Establishing and maintaining collaborations with other academic departments and fine and performing arts organizations, including the Asolo Theatre in Sarasota and such FSU organizations as the International Programs and the College of Music, School of Motion Picture, Television and Recording Arts, and the College of Visual Arts, Theatre and Dance.
- By providing facilities and equipment which maximize the education and production process while safely supporting our faculty, staff and students, and enhancing the comfort and enjoyment of audiences attending performances.
- By developing a broad base of donor and patron support for student scholarships, awards, endowed faculty chairs, guest artist residencies, special programming and facilities improvements in Tallahassee and Sarasota.
