Technology Campaign

A few centuries ago it was believed that all that was needed to create theatre was ‘two boards and a passion.” While this remains true hundreds of years later our appreciation of and engagement in theatre has become more and more a product of technology. Imagine a professional theatre experience without moving lights, motion control devices for scenery, hydraulic lifts, computerized sound and lighting controls. Theatre production as well as technical theatre education demands a greater reliance on twenty-first century technology.

While the School of Theatre in the College of Visual Arts, Theatre and Dance at Florida State University continues to be one of the top theatre training programs in the nation it must find the financial resources to upgrade its technological capabilities. Our current outdated equipment compromises our production values and our ability to train students for meaningful careers in the industry. With this in mind, the School of Theatre has launched a campaign to develop a Theatre Technology Fund that will over the next five years generate over $650,000 to purchase and update equipment in all areas of theatre technology.
